Spurgeon on Spiritual Babies and Spiritual Adults.

Among those who fear the LORD there are little and great. Some are babes, and others are giants. But these are all blessed. Little faith is blessed faith. Trembling hope is blessed hope. Every grace of the Holy Spirit, even though it be only in the bud, bears a blessing within it. Moreover, the LORD Jesus bought both the small and the great with the same precious blood, and He has engaged to preserve the lambs as well as the full-grown sheep. No mother overlooks her child because it is little; nay, the smaller it is, the more tenderly does she nurse it. If there be any preference with the LORD, He does not arrange them as "great and small" but as "small and great."  -Charles H Spurgeon

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

spurgeon on being holy

Holy desires are grace in the blade, and the heavenly Husbandman will cultivate them till they come to the full corn in the ear. God-fearing men desire to be holy, to be useful, to be a blessing to others, and so to honor their LORD. They desire supplies for their need, help under burdens, guidance in perplexity, deliverance in distress; and sometimes this desire is so strong and their case so pressing that they cry out in agony like little children in pain, and then the LORD works most comprehensively and does all that is needful according to this Word -- "and will save them." -Charles H Spurgeon

a Psalm 62 meme.

psalm 62

"..they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly...."

"In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us."

"Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.

Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth to God.

Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work."

-Psalm 62(#KJV)

spurgeon on the protection of Mercy and Grace.

"Observe, my soul, what a bodyguard thou hast! As a prince is compassed about with soldiery, so art thou compassed about with mercy. Before and behind, and on all sides, ride these mounted guards of grace."  -Charles H. Spurgeon

Grace transmutes us into precious metal, and then the fire and the furnace follows as a necessary consequence. Do we start at this? Would we sooner be accounted worthless, that we might enjoy repose, like the stones of the field! This would be to choose the viler part -- like Esau, to take the pottage and give up the covenant portion. No, LORD; we will gladly be cast into the furnace rather than be cast out from Thy presence!  -Charles H Spurgeon

Spurgeon on "the Field".

We go to the field for exercise, and we are happy in the belief that the LORD will bless that exercise and give us health, which we will use to His glory.

We go to the field to study nature, and there is nothing in a knowledge of the visible creation which may not be sanctified to the highest uses by the divine benediction.

Spurgeon on keeping God in control.

Learn from David to take no step without God. Christian, if thou wouldst know the path of duty, take God for thy compass; if thou wouldst steer thy ship through the dark billows, put the tiller into the hand of the Almighty. Many a rock might be escaped, if we would let our Father take the helm; many a shoal or quicksand we might well avoid, if we would leave to his sovereign will to choose and to command.  -Charles H Spurgeon

On waiting for God.

From Desiring God, an article on Abraham and faith enough to wait for the blessing.  Here.

It's easy enough to get frustrated, to have a lapse of faith, to have the world tugging at your shirt tail for attention, when all the while, God will share his blessings in His own time, according to His will.

Oswald Chambers on God in Everyday Life.

We look for visions from heaven and for earth‘shaking events to see God’s power. Even the fact that we are dejected is proof that we do this. Yet we never realize that all the time God is at work in our everyday events and in the people around us. If we will only obey, and do the task that He has placed closest to us, we will see Him. One of the most amazing revelations of God comes to us when we learn that it is in the everyday things of life that we realize the magnificent deity of Jesus Christ.

-Oswald Chambers

the week's prayers.

"The universe from the beginning has been in constant motion, a constant, "workaholic" bundle of energy in which vast fields of energy connecting across cosmic spaces continuously form, a hyper-energetic mass of bursting mind-like stuff, spewing molecules into the atmosphere with the creativity of an artist."

-Ilia Delio(Christogenesis.org)

The United States experienced a nervous hiccup with the Balloon Crises last week, while Turkey and Syria experienced a massive earthquake.  Could we remember those who are made to suffer?  Can we spare a prayer for the downcast?

We speak sometimes of the "perseverance of the saints", which is taken to mean all kinds of things, from contending for the faith, to Eternal Security to who knows what.  Let us hope that the downtrodden just keep heart during their difficult hour.

Delio's words about the robust energies of the universe perhaps enthrall us, but we should also never forget that we are part of that energetic universe.  Therefore, we are energetic, too, no matter the circumstance, as we press forward.

Thanks to God, and verse memes Feb 5, 2023

Thanks be to the Lord God for His tremendous mercy and favor.  Blessed not over and above any of the brethren, and suffering only what is common to mankind.  Blessed far and away to prosper and maintain joy; enthused by the Lord to the extent as to sing His praises to the populace.

on signs in Mysticism

This was the test of some, and a game to others, the old Rorshach thing of, "what does this cloud remind you of?"  and whatever you said first was the most important thing to you: you imprinted on the world around you.

Or the kooky, would be mystic, and the mystic himself, to think the shape of the clouds are messages from God, writ large in heavenly typeface across a sky as changeable as the wanton little hearts of the commoner.

They even hear it from the birds, it is told.

It is made, as it were, manifest, in the whisper of the wind, that voices do call on the wind, and the birds, even, have their appointed time in the grand scheme.  Early today, even, I heard the boy-cats talking, testing out each others mettle, talking of impetus and pathos and all that, speaking their obscure poetics to the tune of something only animal ears tend to hear at all.

Tozer on the divide between interpretations, ie Fundamentalism and Liberalism.

Fundamentalism has stood aloof from the Liberal in self-conscious superiority and has on its own part fallen into error, the error of textualism, which is simply orthodoxy without the Holy Ghost. Everywhere among Conservatives we find persons who are Bible-taught but not Spirit-taught. They conceive truth to be something which they can grasp with the mind. If a man hold to the fundamentals of the Christian faith he is thought to possess divine truth. But it does not follow. There is no truth apart from the Spirit.  -AW Tozer

A contradiction? Neigh, I say, a clarification.

The theologians and biblical scholars will sternly point out that no scriptures in the Bible are contradictory.  There is the "faith ve...
