Many are celebrating our LORD's first coming this day; let us turn our thoughts to the promise of His second coming. This is as sure as the first advent and derives a great measure of its certainty from it. He who came as a lowly man to serve will assuredly come to take the reward of His service. The sun at last went down, and the swift, eastern night cast its heavy veil over the scene. The words of David in Psalm 2:
I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, "Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.....
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession..."
..be wise now therefore, O ye kings; be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
Soon, the King of Zion would inherit the heathen in the form of Christ's Gospel shared to the Gentiles. How they all must have held bold dreams of victories and conquests based on these promises, but it was the open hand of forgiveness and understanding that won out, rather then the closed fist of strength and fury.
